We all straddle many boundaries and fault lines in our journey through life, but choosing to
cross a cultural border presents a unique set of challenges. These cultural boundaries can be
the basis for friction or greater understanding – or both. The speaker crossed a variety of
cultural boundaries from the Midwest, to the Deep South, to Japan and back, navigating not
just the larger rules of visas and immigration, but also simple daily tasks such as peeling a
carrot. Recorded November 12, 2025 in the Panorama Auditorium. Thanks to the Auditorium
staff for sharing this show.
